REMAINS research documentation 2024

Sharing some moments from research project REMAINS, connecting fashion shop locations in the Nordics with Korle Lagoon in Accra where an apocalyptic landscape of western fast fashion clothes towers the coastline. Hundreds of tons of cast-off clothes arrive daily in poorer and poorer conditions, half of it ending life as landfill on the shores. A redirected consequence of our overconsumption.

Year after year we shipped our passed trends out of sight from the nordic self-understanding as forerunners of sustainability, maintaining the narrative of a far-away world gratefully welcoming our sad leftovers.

This should disturb our historical selves. The scars of past atrocities ache as we witness yet another inventive landscape of modern colonialism. The sediments of our flourishing lifestyle here, again grounded into the soil and land of Ghana.

REMAINS is set out to connect the realities.

Change happen through awareness. Awareness is awakened through connection. Citizen to citizen.

The journey has just started...

Thank you Nordisk Kulturfond GLOBUS opstart program for giving us the possibility to explore the facilitation of connections and the complex entanglement of sites and realities. Grateful!
